Company Profile

Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS)

Company Overview

Our mission is to connect parents, strengthen families, and build community.
Our vision is that one day, no parent will be alone, families have the support they need, and parents and children are connected, resilient, and thriving.

At PEPS, we believe that connection changes everything. Connection is not extra – it’s essential. When parents find community and support, children directly benefit. These supported parents engage more patiently with their children, respond more effectively to their needs, and model healthy relationships. The ripple effect transforms children's lives through their most influential relationships.

Our Approach:
PEPS equips parents with emotional, social, and developmental support by creating community, sharing knowledge, and strengthening systems. We create change through three key levers:
• Bringing Parents Together
We build peer support groups based on neighborhood, parenting stage, and shared experience. Trained peer group leaders create welcoming spaces where parents connect, share openly, and learn alongside one another. Many parents return as leaders, strengthening our community with each new group.
• Building Partnerships
We collaborate with organizations rooted in community to co-create parent support networks that reflect each community’s culture and needs. We share our curriculum and model while learning from our partners’ deep expertise.
• Changing Systems
We advocate for changes that make life better for all families - advancing family-friendly policies in Washington State and shaping workplace cultures to better support parents.

The Change We Want to See:
• Parents feel more confident, connected and equipped to navigate the highs and lows of parenting.
• Parent support networks are stronger, more accessible, and grounded in community wisdom.
• Families experience greater well-being, parents are supported through community-driven solutions and family-friendly policies.

Our Values
Equity, Innovation, Inclusion, Community, Authenticity

Our Culture
The PEPS staff and board believe that its success as an organization is based on its unique and supportive organizational culture, which strongly affirms that all new parents deserve community, support, and social connection. When parents build connection with one another, their babies, families, and communities are healthier. To work towards healthy outcomes for all families, PEPS operates with a racial equity lens across all of its activities and embraces learning and growth.

PEPS Equity Statement
We believe that all new families should have access to a healthy, supported start in life. As long as race and ethnicity continue to predict the future life chances of children in our state, we are committed to working with families, partner organizations, and communities to identify barriers to parent support and wellness, interrupt their negative impact and eliminate the persistent disparities in child outcomes.

Company History

Our History: Successfully supporting parents for four decades

In 1982, a group of early childhood educators and social service workers from public and private agencies in King County, WA, joined to design a preventative model of support and education for new parents. These collaborative visionaries saw the need for a program that would bring new parents together, in their communities, during the critical first few months when feelings of isolation and inadequacy mix with the joy of welcoming a new baby. Informed by study of family support programs across the nation, PEPS launched three neighborhood groups in 1983 and was quickly embraced by the community as a unique and incredibly valuable family resource.

Notable Accomplishments / Recognition

Our outcomes evaluations confirm that PEPS participants feel less isolated, more confident and competent about their parenting skills, aware of parenting resources in their community and neighborhood and well connected with people who support them as parents.

After participating in a PEPS program:

• 99% of respondents found others who understand what they are going through.
• 98% of respondents felt more connected to other parents.
• 97% of respondents gained confidence as a parent.
• 95% of respondents felt better equipped to support their child’s development.
• 94% of respondents felt less isolated as a parent.
